Duke Cigarette Booklet- Civil War Generals Series |
This is a cigarette pack premium produced by Duke Cigarettes in the 1880's, in addition to their cigarette cards. The 10 page booklet provides a biography of Union General A. E. Burnside, born in 1824 in South Carolina. He participated in the battles of the Wilderness and Cold Harbor. He was later Governor of Rhode Island. The color lithographed wraps includes a facsimile of his signature inside the front wrap, and a list of other available booklets inside the rear wrap. There were 50 of these "small books", as they called them, including Confederate, as well as Union Officers. If collectors saved the coupons that came with each booklet, 100 coupons would entitle the collector to a souvenir album. A visit to the following Marshall University website will give you additional information about this interesting collecting area: www.marshall.edu/library/speccoll/virtual_museum/duke/default.asp This booklet was copyright 1888 by Knapp & Co., Lithographers & Printers, Park Place, New York. It is 1.5 inches by 2.75 inches in size. Condition is good. The binding staple is rusted, and the cover wrap is split at top and bottom...still attached at middle. Price: $45 |
